The CHILD Partnership

Cultural Heritage Improves Learning & Development

Strengthening Educator Capacity
We invest in building educator capacity through targeted training, coaching, and resource development, Staff wellness is one of our priorities. We learn together as a team and the knowledge and skills each staff member brings to the team is honored and supported.

Supporting Early Education Across Alaska

We hope that our resources are designed for easy integration by other programs. We welcome partnerships to share ideas, access materials, or collaborate on new resources.

Building School Readiness Skills

Grounded in a PreK Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), our approach nurtures the whole child—socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. We believe school readiness grows through play-based learning, strong relationships, and responsive teaching. Together, we help children build a strong sense of who they are and where they belong—encouraging kindness, safety, and confidence. Our PreK–3rd framework promotes success across developmental progressions, ensuring consistency and continuity in each child’s growth and learning.

Cultural Identity & Community Belonging
Our projects integrate cultural identity, language, and community values into all aspects of early learning.  By collaborating with elders, cultural leaders, and partner organizations, we ensure these resources reflect local knowledge. It is important that any program interested in using these resources ensure that it is a good fit for their cultural community.

Partnering with Families, Community, and Programs
Raising children is the shared work of the whole community—elders, families, culture and language teachers, storytellers, and caregivers each play an essential role. Families and communities are a child’s first and most important teachers, and our work begins by honoring the knowledge, traditions, and strengths they bring. We aim to support families at home and invite them into the school.

Partner Programs

The CHILD project began as a collaboration between Chugach School District, Lake and Peninsula School District, and Bristol Bay Borough School District, supported by grants spanning 2018–2024. By working together as rural programs, we’ve been able to share ideas, pool resources, and collaborate on educator supports.

Bristol Bay Borough School District has, also, partnered with a variety of head starts, child development centers, and school district programs across Alaska. It is our joy to offer and adapt materials, as appropriate to fit program needs.
