Virgina Aleck is orignally from Perryville. her mother died when she was in her thirties of a stroke in Perryville when Virginia was only eight years old. Her father took Virgina along with her four other siblings to Chignik Lake where her grandmother helped to raise them. Her father passed away when she was only 13 in a plane crash while on a rescue mission. While her grandmother cared for her younger siblings, she then moved to Port Heiden with an aunt to finish school up through Jr. high school. For high school, Virgina was sent to Chemawa Indian School in Oregon. “It was like a standoff between the Navajos and us Alaskan kids (laughing). Boy it was rough at first.” Being that far away from home made her physically sick. She lived off of a cup of milk a day for weeks until she finally acclimated to the culture.

When she finished high school she moved back to Chignik Lake and married her husband Nick Aleck. There, she bacame a health aid, aiding in the birth of 21 babies. Virgina tells a story about a lady with long hair that lulls people to sleep who wander alone on the beach with her golden comb.
